There are six main rules that we ask all guides to communicate to the visitors they bring to the museum:
- Strictly prohibited to smoke: The museum buildings are made of wood and turf, making them highly flammable. There is a significant fire hazard from embers in cigarette butts.
- Backpacks are not allowed: People tend to accidentally bump backpacks and larger bags against museum artifacts and the walls of the buildings.
- Do not touch artifacts in the exhibitions: Most artifacts are original, making them old and fragile, and they may be damaged if handled.
- Flash photography is prohibited: Flash can cause long-term damage to delicate artifacts and can disrupt the experience of other visitors.
- Walking on the roofs of the turfbuildings or on the turf wall around the museum site is not permitted: Walking on the roofs can cause damage, and there is a risk that roofs may collapse under a person’s weight, creating danger both for those on the roof and those inside the building. There is also a risk of falling and injury.
- Drone flights require permission: If control is lost, drones can cause injuries to people or damage buildings. Additionally, drones may disturb the experience of other museum visitors. Therefore, we require that drones be operated only under staff supervision.
