The Skagafjörður Heritage Museum offers educational programs and welcomes school groups at all educational levels, from preschool children to university students. Educational visits are free of charge for all school groups and organized extracurricular groups.
Guided tours can be tailored to the needs and interests of each group, and we encourage teachers and group leaders to get in touch (byggdasafn@skagafjordur.is) if a specific approach or focus is desired.
- The museum hosts a variety of courses and educational events.
- You can also access booklets and other informative materials here.
- Additional content and insights can be found on the museum’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
Please note: All groups planning to visit the museum must book in advance, whether or not they intend to participate in an educational program.
Museum Bingo
We offer museum bingo at varying levels of difficulty for school groups. The goal is to find specific objects in the turf houses and mark which house each object is located in. Every house has numbered information signs to assist with identification. The game can be completed in full, in a single row, in a "T" or "L" shape — all depending preference.
- Easy: A 3x3 card with pictures of 9 objects, with names in both Icelandic and English.
- Medium: A 4x4 card with names of 16 objects in both Icelandic and English.
- Difficult: A 5x5 card with names of 24 objects in both Icelandic and English.
Cards are available at the ticket office in Garðsendi.
Activity Booklets
We also offer simple activity booklets based on the children’s books A Summer Day at Glaumbær and A Winter Day at Glaumbær, historical stories that give children and adults insight into the lives and work of Icelandic children in the late 19th century. The books were published in Icelandic, English, French, and German.
The booklets include word scrambles, phrase hunts, crossword puzzles, mazes, drawing, and coloring activities! They are available in both Icelandic and English and can be picked up at the ticket office in Garðsendi and at the café.
